Hi,

I have a IIgs sitting in my office that I work on very occasionally and it occurred to me recently I should probably have some kind of dust cover. I know you can probably still buy generic CRT dust covers, usually made from some kind of vinyl material. Any thoughts on whether it is necessary to have a cover made out of plastic? I was thinking something made out of fabric might be nicer, and more environmentally friendly, but would be a bit concerned about possible effects of static electricity.

Thanks,

Chris

I have seen fabric dust covers and even knitted/crocheted ones. I'm assuming it's not harmful for the machine because computers are built with some tolerance to external static. It's inside the machine where static can do real damage. That said, I'd only put on or take off the cover while the PSU is plugged into an outlet. Any discharge would then hopefully be able to safely exit via the ground wire of the plug.
